African swine fever is a dangerous infectious disease caused by African swine fever virus (ASFV). The disease is characterized by rapid spread in pigs, in all types of pigs with a high mortality rate, up to 100%. In 2018, many countries in Africa, Europe and Asia recorded outbreaks of African swine fever in pig herds.

In Vietnam, on February 19, the Department of Animal Health (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) officially announced the recording of eight outbreaks of African swine fever in Vietnam. some breeding households in Hung Yen and Thai Binh provinces.
