African swine fever is a dangerous infectious disease caused by African swine fever virus (ASFV). The disease is characterized by rapid spread in pigs, in all types of pigs with a high mortality rate, up to 100%. The disease is transmitted through herds of pigs through contact with the blood and mucus of infected pigs. In 2018, many countries in Africa, Europe and Asia recorded outbreaks of African swine fever in pig herds.

In Vietnam, on February 19, the Department of Animal Health (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) officially announced the recording of eight outbreaks of African swine fever in Vietnam. some breeding households in Hung Yen and Thai Binh provinces. Thus, the African swine fever epidemic has entered our country and is at risk of spreading to pig herds if not strictly implemented epidemic prevention and control measures.
